What is Oophoropexy?

Oophoropexy is a laparoscopic procedure in which the ovary is sutured or fixed to the pelvic sidewall, round ligament, or posterior uterus to prevent it from twisting on its vascular pedicle again. It is performed in selected cases following ovarian detorsion — particularly in women with anatomical predisposition to torsion, recurrent torsion, or hypermobile ovaries in paediatric or adolescent patients. Dr. Ashwani Narla performs oophoropexy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, as part of the emergency or elective management of ovarian torsion.

Suitable for selected women who have experienced recurrent ovarian torsion, have anatomical risk factors predisposing to torsion, or in whom the clinical risk of re-torsion is high enough to warrant preventive surgical fixation.

How the Procedure Works

1

Anaesthesia & Access

General anaesthesia is administered and laparoscopic ports are placed. The pelvis is assessed and the ovary and its mobility are evaluated.

2

Ovarian Assessment

The ovary is examined for cysts or predisposing anatomical features. Any coexisting cyst is removed before fixation to address the cause of torsion.

3

Fixation Point Selection

The target fixation site — pelvic sidewall, round ligament, or posterior uterus — is selected to achieve the most stable and anatomically correct position.

4

Suture Fixation

The ovary or its ligament is fixed to the selected structure using non-absorbable sutures, restricting excessive mobility while preserving normal ovarian function.

5

Closure & Recovery

Ports are closed; the procedure is typically completed as a day case or with one overnight stay. Return to normal activities occurs within three to five days.

Oophoropexy Cost in Hyderabad

The cost of oophoropexy in Hyderabad can vary depending on the patient's condition, history of ovarian torsion, surgical complexity, diagnostic investigations, surgical technique, and post-operative care. Procedure Approximate Cost Range
Oophoropexy for Ovarian Torsion – Fixation to Prevent Recurrence ₹1,00,000 – ₹1,90,000

The actual treatment cost may vary depending on the patient's medical condition, previous episodes of ovarian torsion, diagnostic tests, surgical approach, anesthesia charges, hospital stay, medications, and any additional procedures that may be required.

Factors That Influence Oophoropexy Cost

Several factors can affect the overall cost of ovarian fixation surgery:

  • →

History of ovarian torsion: Previous or recurrent episodes of torsion may influence the decision to consider oophoropexy and the complexity of treatment.

  • →

Condition of the ovary: The condition and viability of the ovary are assessed during treatment and may influence the surgical approach.

  • →

Diagnostic investigations: Ultrasound, blood tests, and other imaging or assessments may be required before surgery.

  • →

Surgical technique: The technique used to secure the ovary and the overall complexity of the procedure can affect treatment expenses.

  • →

Anesthesia and hospital care: Anesthesia, hospitalization, medications, monitoring, and follow-up care may contribute to the total cost.

  • →

Additional procedures: If other gynecological treatment is required during the same surgical session, the overall cost may increase.
