What is Salpingectomy?

Salpingectomy is the surgical removal of one or both fallopian tubes. It is indicated for tubal pathology that cannot be preserved — including a severely damaged or recurrently infected tube from PID, tubo-ovarian abscess, or hydrosalpinx prior to IVF. Bilateral salpingectomy significantly reduces the risk of high-grade serous ovarian cancer, as many such cancers originate in the fimbrial end of the tube. Dr. Ashwani Narla performs salpingectomy laparoscopically at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, preserving the ovary whenever possible.

Suitable for women with severely damaged or infected fallopian tubes, hydrosalpinx affecting IVF outcomes, recurrent PID, or those seeking risk reduction for ovarian cancer — particularly BRCA carriers wishing to defer oophorectomy.

How the Procedure Works

1

Anaesthesia & Port Placement

General anaesthesia is administered and laparoscopic ports are placed. Both tubes are inspected and the extent of pathology is assessed before surgery begins.

2

Mesosalpinx Dissection

The mesosalpinx — the tissue connecting the tube to the broad ligament — is dissected carefully, preserving the ovarian blood supply throughout.

3

Tubal Ligation & Division

The fallopian tube is ligated at its isthmic end near the uterus and divided, then dissected free from the broad ligament to its fimbrial end.

4

Specimen Removal

The tube is placed in an endobag and removed intact through a port site. Histopathology confirms the nature of tubal pathology.

5

Closure & Recovery

Ports are closed; hospital stay is typically one to two days. Ovarian function is preserved following unilateral or bilateral salpingectomy.

Salpingectomy Cost in Hyderabad

The cost of salpingectomy in Hyderabad can vary depending on the condition of the fallopian tube, the extent of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), the presence of hydrosalpinx, diagnostic investigations, surgical complexity, and post-operative care.
