Sacrocolpopexy
A laparoscopic or robotic procedure that attaches the vaginal vault to the sacrum using mesh — offering durable, anatomically correct correction of vault prolapse with excellent long-term outcomes.
What is Sacrocolpopexy?
Sacrocolpopexy is a laparoscopic (or robotic) procedure in which a synthetic mesh is attached to the front and back of the vaginal vault and anchored to the anterior sacral promontory, restoring the vaginal apex to its normal anatomical position. It is considered the gold standard for vault prolapse repair, offering superior durability compared to vaginal native tissue techniques for selected patients. Dr. Ashwani Narla performs laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, for women with significant vault prolapse requiring the most durable apical correction.
Suitable for women with significant post-hysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse or severe apical descent who are candidates for laparoscopic surgery and in whom a durable mesh-based repair is the most appropriate clinical option.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Port Placement
General anaesthesia is administered. Four to five laparoscopic ports are placed and the pelvis is accessed. The sacral promontory and vaginal vault are identified.
Dissection & Mesh Placement
The peritoneum is opened and the presacral space dissected. Mesh arms are attached to the anterior and posterior vaginal walls through careful dissection.
Sacral Fixation
The mesh is pulled taut under correct tension and secured to the anterior sacral ligament with permanent sutures or a tacker, suspending the vault precisely.
Peritoneal Closure
The peritoneum is closed over the mesh to prevent exposure. The pelvis is irrigated and haemostasis confirmed before port closure.
Recovery
Hospital stay is two to three days. Pelvic floor physiotherapy begins early. Heavy lifting is restricted for three months to allow mesh incorporation.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →
Gold standard for vault prolapse repair with superior long-term durability
- →
Maintains normal vaginal axis and depth, preserving sexual function
- →
Laparoscopic approach minimises recovery compared to open sacrocolpopexy
- →
Concurrent anterior repair can be performed in the same operation
- →
Over 90% long-term success rate in appropriately selected patients
- →
Robotic-assisted option available for additional precision in complex cases
Sacrocolpopexy lifts the vault back to its natural position and holds it there — precisely and durably. For the right patient, it delivers outcomes that last decades.

Sacrocolpopexy Cost in Hyderabad
The cost of sacrocolpopexy in Hyderabad can vary depending on the severity and type of pelvic organ prolapse, the complexity of the repair, diagnostic evaluations, surgical approach, and post-operative care. Sacrocolpopexy is a surgical procedure used to support the vaginal vault in cases of vault prolapse by attaching it to the sacrum. The estimated cost generally ranges from ₹2,00,000 to ₹4,00,000, with an approximate average cost of ₹3,00,000.
| Procedure | Approximate Cost Range |
|---|---|
| Sacrocolpopexy for Uterine Prolapse – Vaginal Vault Prolapse Repair | ₹2,00,000 – ₹4,00,000 |
The actual treatment cost may vary depending on the severity of prolapse, pre-operative investigations, surgical approach, anesthesia charges, mesh or other surgical materials, hospital stay, medications, and any additional procedures required.
Factors That Influence Sacrocolpopexy Cost
Several factors can influence the overall cost of sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ or vaginal vault prolapse:
- →
Severity of prolapse: The extent of vaginal vault or pelvic organ prolapse may affect the complexity of the repair.
- →
Pre-operative evaluation: Pelvic examination, imaging, blood tests, and other assessments may be required before surgery.
- →
Surgical approach: The approach used for sacrocolpopexy, including minimally invasive techniques where appropriate, may influence the overall expenses.
- →
Surgical materials: Mesh and other specialized materials used to provide pelvic support may contribute to the treatment cost.
- →
Anesthesia and hospital care: Anesthesia, hospitalization, medications, monitoring, and post-operative care can affect the final cost.
- →
Additional procedures: If other pelvic floor repairs or gynecological procedures are required during the same surgery, the overall treatment expenses may increase.
Is Sacrocolpopexy Covered by Insurance?
Sacrocolpopexy may be covered by health insurance when it is medically necessary for the treatment of pelvic organ or vaginal vault prolapse. Coverage depends on the patient's policy terms, inclusions, exclusions, and pre-authorization requirements.
