Hysteroscopy
A minimally invasive procedure using a thin camera to directly visualise the inside of the uterus — enabling diagnosis and treatment of abnormal bleeding, polyps, fibroids, adhesions, and uterine anomalies without incisions.
What is Hysteroscopy?
Hysteroscopy involves passing a thin telescope (hysteroscope) through the cervix into the uterine cavity under direct vision, using saline distension to expand the cavity and allow thorough inspection. It can be performed diagnostically to assess the cause of abnormal bleeding, infertility, or recurrent miscarriage — or operatively to treat polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or a uterine septum in the same sitting. Dr. Ashwani Narla performs hysteroscopy at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad, combining diagnosis and treatment wherever possible to minimise the need for repeated procedures.
Suitable for women with abnormal uterine bleeding, suspected intrauterine pathology on ultrasound, recurrent miscarriage, implantation failure, or uterine anomaly requiring direct visualisation and potential operative treatment.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia & Preparation
General or local anaesthesia is administered. The cervix is gently dilated to allow the hysteroscope to pass into the uterine cavity with saline distension.
Systematic Cavity Inspection
The uterine cavity is inspected systematically — ostia, cornua, walls, and fundus — identifying all pathology before proceeding to operative intervention.
Operative Treatment
Polyps, submucosal fibroids, adhesions, or a uterine septum are treated under direct hysteroscopic vision using scissors, resectoscope, or energy devices.
Specimen Collection
Tissue removed is sent for histopathology. Targeted endometrial biopsies may be taken from suspicious areas during the same procedure.
Recovery & Discharge
The procedure is completed as a day case. Most patients are discharged within a few hours. Light bleeding and cramping may persist for one to two days.

Day procedure with rapid recovery and return to routine within days
- →
Guided biopsies provide histological diagnosis of abnormal endometrium
- →
Improves IVF outcomes by identifying and treating cavity pathology before embryo transfer

Hysteroscopy Cost in Hyderabad
The cost of hysteroscopy in Hyderabad can vary depending on the reason for the procedure, the patient's symptoms, diagnostic requirements, and whether any additional treatment is performed during the procedure. For conditions such as adenomyosis or menstrual disorders with heavy or irregular bleeding, hysteroscopy may be recommended to assess the uterine cavity. The estimated cost generally ranges from ₹25,000 to ₹60,000, with an approximate average cost of ₹42,500.
| Procedure | Approximate Cost Range |
|---|---|
| Hysteroscopy for Adenomyosis – Assessment of the Uterine Cavity | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 |
| Hysteroscopy for Menstrual Disorders – Cavity Assessment | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 |
The actual cost may vary depending on the patient's condition, pre-procedure investigations, type of hysteroscopy, anesthesia, hospital or day-care charges, medications, and whether any additional procedure is required during the evaluation.
Factors That Influence Hysteroscopy Cost
The overall cost of hysteroscopy may depend on several clinical and procedural factors
- →
Reason for hysteroscopy: The cost may vary depending on whether the procedure is being performed to investigate heavy bleeding, irregular menstrual cycles, adenomyosis-related symptoms, or another uterine condition.
- →
Diagnostic evaluation: Ultrasound, blood tests, MRI, or other investigations may be recommended based on the patient's symptoms and clinical findings.
- →
Type of hysteroscopy: Diagnostic hysteroscopy and operative hysteroscopy may involve different levels of complexity and cost.
- →
Additional treatment: If abnormalities such as polyps or other uterine cavity findings are identified, additional treatment during hysteroscopy may affect the final cost.
- →
Anesthesia and hospital care: Anesthesia, day-care or admission charges, medications, monitoring, and follow-up consultations may contribute to the total expenses.
- →
Treatment approach for adenomyosis: Medical management, including hormonal therapy or a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS), may be considered depending on the patient's symptoms and treatment goals. MRI of the pelvis may also be recommended when further evaluation of adenomyosis is required. Hysterectomy is a definitive surgical treatment for adenomyosis in appropriate patients who have completed childbearing.
